PUBLICATION: Architectural Digest
Another publication feature this month is from Architectural Digest! The article is about how architects are working toward creating more livable prisons and highlights some of the challenges they face. HMC Architectswas featured in this article for their design of the Las Colinas Women's Detention and Reentry Facility in San Diego County.HMC and I were given the opportunity to photograph the facility only a week before inmates were scheduled to arrive, and it felt like I was photographing a university campus and not a detention facility. But that's not a bad thing! Rehabilitation is important and if this type of environment can help, then I'm glad HMC designed it that way!Random Side-Note: Right before this shoot, I has just finished watching the 3rd season ofOrange is the New Black. For those of you not familiar with the show, it takes place in a women's prison. So walking around inside the facility was a bit surreal as scenes from the show would pop into my head.
