Covid 19: April

Hello again, clients and friends -

Well, here we are: ankle deep in our Shelter In Place reality. While the global realities are truly overwhelming and anxiety inducing, I am doing my best each day to stay present and productive.

DISCLAIMER: You are about to receive productivity tips from an architectural photographer who just added 5 baby chicks, a turtle (and her just dropped egg), and a young rescue puppy to our already busy family of full-time working parents, a highly-curious elementary-school student, and a newly potty-trained 3-year old who simultaneously screams and talks non-stop.

Please take it all with a grain of salt and nice dash of levity :)

As we round the corner on our first full month of Working From Home, here are my Top 3 Ways to Stay Productive:

1. Schedule. I do everything I can to maintain the same schedule I normally keep in 'real' life. I'm waking up at 5am, getting a run in on my treadmill, and brewing my coffee as a proper start to my work day. A familiar schedule helps me stay on track with my administrative work and research. With my commute gone, my most notable schedule change is that my travel mug has been swapped out for a ceramic variety - and that's a change I'm very much into.

2. Connecting. It's called social distancing, but it certainly doesn't mean I have to feel distant. With so many platforms and formats to chat and share and connect, I am as connected as ever with my clients, my extended family, and my friends. Seeing faces - even on a screen - minimizes worry about the 'unknown' and is a reminder that the outside world is still right where we left it.

3. Balance. It's very easy to fall into the trap of sitting at your desk for twelve hours one day and zero minutes the next day. I strike a balance by minimizing multi-tasking and doing my best to focus only on the task at hand. With the help of my wonderfully egalitarian wife, we're both finding time for work and family...and baby chicken tending...vegetable garden growing...puppy training...turtle egg tracking...home schooling...I guess it seems I'm improving on BALANCE but still working on MODERATION! 🤷🏻‍♂️

I want to hear your WFH tactics and tips, too: Elaborate lunches? New virtual workout routines? The best CSA in Southern California? I'm always ready and willing to up my WFH game, so let me know what's working for you!

All the best,
Lawrence Anderson
